Maria Sibylla Merian Class Pack

Kindergarten through 5th Grade

Explore the connection between art and nature with this class pack! Students will learn all about Maria Sibylla Merian, a woman who was not only an incredible illustrator but a pioneering scientist, too. During a time when women weren't allowed into the scientific community, Merian was dedicated to studying insects and plants. Even more, she accurately and beautifully illustrated the objects she studied. Her work is still used by scientists today! With this art box, kids will create their own flower bouquet. Plus, they'll study Merian's work and dive into the history of botanical illustration.

This pack contains all of the supplies you'll need in order for 10 or more children to complete a fun mixed-media reproduction of Maria Merian's Plate CLXIX artwork. To give you a head start on prepping the lesson, a reproducible PDF tutorial will be emailed to you before the art box ships.

Please note- class packs may take up to 2 weeks to ship.

Activities in the Maria Sibylla Merian Class Pack Box:
Plate CLXIX Mixed-Media Flower Bouquet
Merian's step-father taught her how to illustrate flowers when she was just a little girl. In this project, young artists will design three-part flowers with antique-looking craft paper, cupcake liners, and pom-poms. Then, they will assemble the flowers to create two unique bouquets.
