Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo is considered one of Mexicos' greatest artists! Although she was mostly active during the early 1900s, her popularity is still growing today. In this month's My Artist Box, kids will have the opportunity to discover this bold artist and see how art can be used to communicate powerful emotions.
The box begins with a biography and an explanation of a few events that dramatically shaped Kahlo's life. After that, it's time to start creating! Each project includes a wide variety of art supplies like watercolors, clay, metallic sheets, impasto paste, and glitter. Kids will study two of Kahlo's paintings and be encouraged to use their imagination as they create their own artwork. They'll also get a step-by-step lesson in painting self-portraits. The box wraps up with a 3D recreation of Kahlo's home: La Casa Azul (The Blue House).
