Magic

Abracadabra—your magical art box is here!

In this box, you'll find five projects focused on kid-friendly magic and illusions. Kids can put together a glow-in-the-dark wand, paint a magician, and mix up magical potions. They'll get to use traditional art supplies like oil pastels and clay, but they'll also work with a few new materials like powder from flower petals and shimmering mica powder. Each project allows kids to maximize their creativity. They'll choose the colors, handle the supplies, and have a lot of fun!

Activities in the Magic Box:
Magic Scratch Art
Magicians make things appear out of nowhere and, in this project, kids can too! They'll start with a layer of colorful oil pastels, but then it'll be covered with a special black paint. They'll use the wooden skewer to scratch off the paint and magically reveal the surprise below!

Magically Fizzy Magician
Kids will make magical bubbles as they create this magician. It's a simple vinegar and baking soda reaction, but when you add glitter and paint, it's amazing to little ones! They'll add googly eyes and a few other wizard features to complete this project.

Glow-in-the-Dark Wand
This colorful wand can only be used for good—no evil spells here. Children will put together this wand by using foil, clay, black paint, and sparkling mica powder. Plus, the tip of the wand is a glow-in-the-dark marble!

Color-Changing Potions Science Project
Stir up some fun with this two-part "magic" science experiment. First, kids can experiment with powder from the butterfly pea flower. This is an incredibly unique powder that changes color when you mix it with other ingredients. In the second science project, kids will mix together their own sparkly potion!

Witch and Wizard Origami
Kids will fold up two magical pieces of origami this month. There's a crinkled witch's hat and a wizard with a pointy hat. Both projects come with easy-to-follow instructions and are just right for little fingers.
